Dark is an original Netflix series from the mystery thriller genre with touches of supernatural fantasy. This series is the first project that the streaming company develops that is written, shot and produced in Germany.
Set in contemporary Germany, the series revolves around the disappearance of two children in Widen. The people turn to look for them until the situation becomes more and more a supernatural experience. It seems that everything is related to the unexplained events that occurred in 1986. All this mysterious disappearance, in addition, will bring to light the past and the secrets of four families who discover that they are connected.
Directed by renowned Swiss filmmaker Baran bo Odar (Silence of Ice), and written by screenwriter and actress Jantje Friese, this series consists of ten one-hour episodes. Both have previously worked on the film Who am I ?, a thriller about hackers, directed by Odar and co-written by Friese. Dark is produced by Quirin Berg, Max Wiedermann and Justyna Müsch, the same team that was behind the film La vida de los otros, from 2006.
